𝐇𝐚𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐝𝐬 (𝐏𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬) – 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩!
It is been a while we have not organised any webinar. Welcome to another session of webinar on the topic of haemorrhoids or commonly also known called as piles. We would like to highlight some of the frequently asked questions (FAQs) by the readers, shared by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐠𝐮 𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐲 from
Avisena Specialist Hospital
.𝐅𝐀𝐐#𝟏 “𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐝𝐬?”.
Answer – This is normally due to the thrombosis of the haemorrhoids complex and this normally will need some forms of surgery intervention. These patients would have the haemorrhoids frequently coming out and pushed back in, and suddenly they have pain. So, this is normally due to thrombosis. Thrombosed haemorrhoid occurs when blood clot is formed inside the haemorrhoidal veins, blocking the blood flow which lead to a painful swelling of the haemorrhoids. In severe case, thrombosed haemorrhoids can actually burst, causing severe/non-stop bleeding.
𝐅𝐀𝐐#𝟐 “𝐃𝐨 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝?”
Answer – Based on Dr. Ragu’s experience, patients always get worried and ask this question. Majority of people assume that when they get haemorrhoids, it must be operated or go for surgery. However, this is not the case. Conservative managements are available, such as changes in dietary habits, exercises, good fluid intake, and good bowel (toilet) habit that doctor will normally advise for mild cases. However, these types of conservative treatments are suitable only for early grade or mild haemorrhoids. Therefore, it is important to treat haemorrhoids earlier to avoid surgical treatment.
𝐅𝐀𝐐#𝟑 “𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫?”.
The answer is NO. Haemorrhoids is not colon cancer it will not become or progress to cancer. However, haemorrhoids affects your quality of life and it could become more severe sometimes. Dr. Ragu advises that when haemorrhoids start affecting your quality of life, you should do something about it instead of just ignoring it.
For tips on good toilet habits, Dr. Ragu advises that it is important to practice “𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝟓”, which is when we go to the toilet, do not sit there for more than 5 minutes, and you only go to toilet when you really feel the urge to go. It is important to avoid sitting down in the toilet every day to try to push the faeces out and keep on straining.

Advanced minimally invasive Laser Haemorrhoids Treatment shrinks haemorrhoids internally by a mini skin puncture of less than 2mm. A laser fibre is inserted to the base of haemorrhoids and seal the blood supply of the haemorrhoids directly. The haemorrhoids are then shrunk from inside without injuring the sphincter muscle.
