It starts in your lower back and splits to run through your hips, buttocks, legs and feet on both sides.

‘𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐨𝐮𝐬’ means that this procedure is performed by inserting the laser fibre (via a fine needle) through the skin surface without open surgical wound. In other words, it is a needle approach to treat your back pain (slipped disc).

‘𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐫’ is a precise heat energy generated from light, delivers to the nucleus pulposus (the core of intervertebral disc). Laser vaporizes the water content of nucleus pulposus, and thereby reducing the internal disc pressure. A reduction of intradiscal pressure will cause the herniated part of the disc to shrink, leading to reduction of nerve root compression.

‘𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜’ means slipped disc. Slipped disc will be identified through X-Ray or MRI examination, are generally suitable for laser treatment.

With the evolution of technology, Stapler and Laser Surgery are the new technique in treating haemorrhoids after Open Surgery. Stapler surgery is a technology established 20 years before Laser technique.

The concept of Stapler surgery is almost the same as Open Surgery. For Stapler Surgery, piles are removed by a device known as stapler. Before firing the stapler device, surgeon will stitch around the haemorrhoids above the dentate line. Extra cautions needed while stitching around the haemorrhoids to avoid stitching the beneath sphincter muscles.

Concept of Laser surgery is treating the source of blood vessels which supplying blood to the haemorrhoids without removing any tissues. Laser is not a blind procedure, in which surgeon can know the exact location of laser fibre inside the haemorrhoids with the guidance of laser beam. Surgeon can also adjust the fibre position depending on the intensity of the laser beam, therefore, injury of the sphincter muscle can be avoided. (Sphincter muscle is essential in maintaining continence.)

We have received few enquires asking what is the difference between Open Haemorrhoids Surgery and Laser Haemorrhoids Procedure. In simple words, we can say that the former treatment is traditional whereas, the latter is an advanced technique.

For Open Haemorrhoids Surgery, the surgeon will make a cut on each of the haemorrhoids to remove the entire haemorrhoids from the anal canal. Extra cautions needed when performing this surgery as there are sphincter muscles around the anal canal, which functions as controlling the bowel movements, hence should not be harmed.

Whilst, a small incision hole is sufficient for laser fibre to be inserted to treat haemorrhoids internally. Theory of laser is by treating the blood vessels that supply blood to the haemorrhoids. Once the blood vessels are sealed by laser energy, the blood will not be able to reach the haemorrhoids, eventually the haemorrhoids tissue will die off. There is no tissue being removed. Sphincter muscle will be preserved with the precise delivery of laser energy.

There are two types of haemorrhoids: internal and external.

Bleeding and itchiness are the symptoms you will experienced if you are having internal haemorrhoids. Haemorrhoids that occurred above dentate line are known as internal haemorrhoids, which do not have sensory nerve. As a result, internal haemorrhoids will not cause pain.

Unless, internal haemorrhoids have become severe and protrude out of the anus, which are known as combined internal and external haemorrhoids. You will starting to feel pain once haemorrhoid has protruded out of the anus, simply due to collision of skin or undergarment with haemorrhoids while walking or compressing the haemorrhoids while sitting.

External haemorrhoids occurred on the skin of anus, whereby it is a sensitive area with lot of sensory nerves that will contribute to pain sensation.
